Young moved from North Carolina to Los Angeles landing the roles as Cathy Metsker in Randall Wallace s We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson Madeleine Stowe & Greg Kinnear and Rachel for JJ Abrams Mission Impossible: 3 featuring Tom Cruise and Keri Russell. She has also made a number of independent films there including the Sundance most-loved The Freebie starring Dax Shepard and A Country Remedy starring Joshua Leonard which she helped produce filming it in her home state that is North Carolina. Young has had a wide and lengthy career in the field of television after moving to LA. She's appeared in more than 40 television shows, including Grey's Anatomy Private Practice The West Wing ER Frasier Boston Legal Cold Case NCIS Law & Order. Young is currently portrayed as the award-winning First Lady Mellie grant in ABC's hit show Scandal as well as featured on Zoe Cassavetes upcoming film Day out of Days. Young is currently working on an album for adults that will include covers of Fleetwood Mac Tom Waits and Ryan Adams. In May of 2015, Young released her first single Far Away So Close on iTunes. She starred in Megan Griffiths' crime drama The Night Stalker, about serial killer Richard Ramirez. Following that, she starred in a supporting character in the independent comedy movie Bernard and Huey opposite Jim Rash and David Koechner. In 2018 she co-starred in Disney Live Action's version of A Wrinkle in Time along with Oprah Winfrey Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.
